How do you deal with ethical issues? In public…
In this series, we give you simple and compelling industry insights into all of Engineers Australia's Stage 2 Chartered Competencies that will help you prepare your Evidence Statements for assessment for that highly-prized Chartered status.
They have been prepared and condensed by Fellow Chartered Professional Engineers and Engineering Executives based entirely on their personal experience and engineering practice at the highest level of the profession in complex industrial settings.
1. Deal with Ethical Issues
Acting ethically - or not - can make or break a career. Your professional reputation is inextricably linked to your moral and ethical judgments that are constantly being scrutinised by stakeholders. When it comes to ethics, there is no hiding or resiling from your decisions.
Calibrate your moral compass and make sure that unethical dealings are always, always brought out into the open so that your organisation can deal with them. And never, ever find yourself in a position where your integrity is compromised or seen to be compromised.
Fortunately, Engineers Australia has a Code of Ethics to help your navigate this minefield. Make sure you use it!
