To achieve the coveted "Chartered" status with Engineers Australia, or any other peak body globally, you'll have to demonstrate competency on a range pf prescribed elements.

In Australia, that number is 16!

However, there are two skills you need to become expert in, not just competent, for your career to flourish.

The best engineers - or engineers turned business people - are exemplar when it comes to:

1. Project management

2. Negotiation

The regular and disciplined application of project management (getting things done) and negotiation (maximising utility) methodologies are the differentiators between an ordinary career - and an extraordinary one.

If you had only one extra hour of time available and wanted to invest in career success, put 30 minutes into project management and 30 minutes in negotiation.
