“What advice would I give my graduate self?” – Andrew Edwards, Nova Systems

Andrew Edwards studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 2010.

Andrew's first job in industry was with the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) on their two-year graduate rotation program. Subsequently, he worked for three years at ASC in the System Safety department and then another three years in the Mechanical Systems department.

In early 2019, Andrew joined Nova Systems as a Systems Engineer consultant and is currently working on the AWD project at Osborne, South Australia, in the Acceptance and Delivery function.

In this podcast, Andrew gives his graduate-self the advice that all engineering students and graduates are ultimately seeking - you have made the right career choice and have a bright future even if it doesn't make sense right away or when you finally make it to industry!

You may be be surprised at how little of your actual course content you use day-to-day and how much of what you need to know isn't taught at universities!

Andrew's career is testament to being receptive to opportunities as they present themselves, that you don't need to be be too picky with your first job and that, ultimately, your Grade Point Average won't matter or make the difference. What will is the confidence to try and fail and learn from your mistakes.
